Rescue Groups at Doggy Party on the Plaza
We saw several of our pup pals when we attended the 3rd Annual Doggy Party on the Plaza, this Saturday, April 21, at CityCentre hosted by PetTalk. We saw celebrity emcees-- Deborah Duncan of Great Day Houston, Casey Curry of ABC's Channel 13 News, and Laura Reynolds on Mix 95 along with over 50 vendors who showcased all-things-dog and raised money and awareness for local rescue groups like Lucky Dog Rescue and Lone Star Shih-Tzu and Lhasa Apso (who also organized an amazing raffle). There was also a RESCUE LANE and about a dozen adoption booths. We also saw a no-kill awareness booth for Friends For Life.
It was good to see that the City of Houston was there. BARC and the Mayor Annise Parker was the Grand Marshal of the Rescue Me! Parade competition. Eight area rescues competed for more than $6,000 in prizes for their rescue program including veterinary care, pet food, grooming, training, and boarding donated by incredible local pet businesses.
It was the most beautiful day in Houston and a perfect day to make a difference by caring and saving lives by supporting the rescue groups. The event was sponsored by Houston Dog Ranch, Arne’s Warehouse, Petco and Carter’s Pet Depot. Waste removal provided by All About Doody. Thanks to all the volunteers, non-profits, and businesses for the well-organized, dog-friendly event.

Where to Go for Valentine's Treats
By Sarah Rufca at CultureMap
02.11.12 | 08:45 am
Look, guys (and girls): Valentine's Day just isn't that hard.
You don't have to think outside the box or order something like a pajamagram. (Seriously, do not ever order anyone a pajamagram. Unless the message you are sending is "I don't ever want to see you naked again.")
Flowers. Candy. Kisses. Boom. Done.
I'm going to leave you to your own devices on the kissing and I know better than to predict flower preferences, but here's a quick list of where to get some of the best sweet treats in town.
Fluff Bake Bar
Fluff and Fat Cat Creamery are teaming up on a Valentine's Day bake sale to benefit Lucky Dog Rescue, with cupcakes, cookies (including Rebecca Masson's famed fluffernutters) and vanilla ice cream with chocolate covered cherries. Pick-ups are available every day until Feb. 14, but orders must be placed ASAP.

Now, four professional photographers will hold a tribute and photography fundraiser for Brewer’s favorite charities. Jack Opatrany, Sonya Sellers, Melissa Hammonds, and Kim Hartz who all specialize in family and pet photography, like Brewer did, are offering private mini sessions for $50. The professional photographers will offer indoor studio settings and outdoor studio settings designed by Buchanan’s Native Plants. Each photographer has a different setting/sitting style which is explained on www.portraits4pink.org.
The proceeds will benefit Brewer’s preferred non-profits-- the Breast Cancer Research organizations, Homeless & Orphaned Pets Endeavor (H.O.P.E.), Homeless Pet Placement League (H.P.P.L.), Lucky Dog Rescue, Pup Squad, Lone Star Shih Tzu & Lhasa Apso Rescue, Pet Patrol and Corridor Rescue.
Brewer’s clients will also bring and showcase their favorite portraits by Brewer over the many years that she photographed their pets. The event will also offer prize drawings for both pet lovers and families. Jewelry such as photo frame charms and photo lockets can be ordered with private portrait session along with portrait packages, art, and other merchandise. Activities will include bra pong, pony tail donations for natural wigs for women undergoing chemotherapy, and make-overs by professional stylists from Craft Salon. Delectable treats such as pink lemonade and pink sweets from Food Network’s Top Chef’s: Just Desserts Rebecca Masson of Fluff Bake Bar.

Holiday Pet Photos at Urban Bicycle Gallery on 12/18/2010
Bring your pet and family to Urban Bicycle Gallery to pose in a holiday setting or white background setting. Urban Bicycle Gallery is located at 4814 Nett Street Houston, TX 77007.
The minimum suggested donation is $25.00 which includes the sitting fee plus one photo. Proceeds benefit Lucky Dog Rescue and Lone Star Shih Tzu and Lhasa Apso Rescue.
We are honored to have the award-winning photographer Jack Opatrny of PhotoArt Studios, (http://www.jackophoto.com).
Jack’s personal interests include charitable causes ranging from animal rescue, environmental protection, and breast cancer awareness. His love of dogs inspired his recent pictorial, "Street Dogs of Mexico." This collection of black-and-white images calls attention to the massive problem of homeless dogs and captures their raw emotions and survival instincts as they struggle to survive roaming the cities of Mexico. He also supports several local dog rescue groups and has filmed a PSA for No-Kill Houston as well.
